Clayton and Grant's classes recently went on field trips just a day apart. With Clayton's class, we visited Kentucky Down Under and with Grant's we went to the zoo! It turned out be be great weather for both and we enjoyed our days!

Easter 2011
Better late than never to update the blog, huh?!! It's been a long while, but I am finally getting on here to update! So sorry for the infrequency of my posts lately. We are all doing very well. Baseball has started for our boys they are spread out on 3 different teams this year! So it will be a little crazy for awhile, but fun.
The boys recently took part in Easter festivities with an Egg Hunt and festival at church. Then we got all dressed up on Easter morning and were able to get a quick picture outside of church under an awning even though it was very very WET! It was a wonderful Easter service and here are some pictures from the holiday.

Ice Skating for the First Time!

Clayton, Grant, and I got to go on our first ice skating trip ever when we went with Clayton's Cub Scouts group Sunday afternoon. My biggest fear was that we would leave with a broken bone and that it would be ME! Fortunately, we avoided any accidents (although one guy wasn't so lucky and they believed he may have broken his ankle!) and actually had an absolute blast learning the "ropes" of ice skating and getting a feel for a new and different activity. I loved the fact that they had crates stacked two or three high to help the little ones navigate that tough frozen terrain. Heck, I even considered using them myself but was a little self-concious about that screaming "BEGINNER: GET OUT OF HER WAY." LOL I mustered up the courage to "sink or swim" and slowly got a feel for what I was supposed to do. Starting out holding the edge helped, lol. But soon I was making strides (literally) and although still a complete novice I can say that I enjoyed skating around that oval many times by the time we left. I love learning new things but I hated it that there was no one to teach me. What is proper form? These skates are killing my ankles, am I doing this right?? Maybe next time I can Google these questions before we go now that I have a better idea of what DOESN'T work, lol. Anyway, we had a GREAT time and the boys were already asking when we get to go back. I'd like to know, too! :-)

Louisville Slugger Museum
(December 31st, 2010)
Back in the fall we purchased a basket at the kids' schools' fundraiser auction at the Fall Festival. In it were passes to see a Louisville Riverbats baseball game during the 2011 season, as well as passes to the Louisville Slugger Museum. According to the fine print on the museum tix, they expired the last day of the year and so we called up some friends to see if we could all fit it into our schedule that last week of the year while everyone was off work and it happened to work out that we went on New Year's Eve. It has definitely been a LONG time since I've been to the museum and it was certainly a first for our kids. We had a great time taking in the factory tour and learning about the great history behind this legendary brand of bat. We even got to hold bats used by some legendary players as well, such as Mickey Mantle! Another highlight was hitting a few balls in the inexpensive batting cages. Everyone had a great time!
Here are the pics! We are proudly wearing our Kentucky blue since the big rivalry basketball game between Kentucky and Louisville was going on that day just a few streets away while we were at the museum.

Christmas Day 2010
What a wonderful Christmas we had! It was the first time in YEARS, but we were blessed with a beautiful White Christmas!
We started our day with a big breakfast, as usual. Then we opened our gifts and watched their delight. It was a Star Wars Christmas for us this year, lol! From what I can tell there is a whole new generation of fans for this classic. We gave them the first trilogy of movies and have since watched them and it has only bolstered their infatuation and gave the light sabers they asked for new meaning. Later on in the day, Daddy and the boys all bundled up to go play in the snow. They got to test out their new sleds (which worked great!) and of course make snowballs while sneaking in a few bites of snow. We had a blessed Christmas and look forward to another new year!

Run For Fun 2010

Unfortunately, this has been my only race so far this year! But it is definitely one I'm glad I didn't miss. It is sponsored by our local hospital and proceeds go to their diabetes foundation. This is one very organized race with such nice extras. My favorite has to be the Fit Kid Races where kids can run a non competitive race and earn themselves a medal and a couple of other novelty freebies. This is the second year we've signed up and the kids enjoy it so much, too. I hope one day we can all run the 5k together!

Fall Festivities

The Battle of Perryville and Hayride/Bonfire

This Saturday was particularly busy! Football games that morning, then on to a family activity more than an hour's drive away, then back home to a hayride and bonfire get together at the home of some church friends! Busy, but FUN!
Last year was our first year attending the Battle of Perryville in Perryville, KY. It was apparently a major Civil War battle and the town hosts this reenactment every year. I have to say that I enjoyed it just as much or more than the kids last year so I insisted that we go again this year. Unfortunately, since we could not get there early, we did not get good seats so the view was not as good as last year, but we still enjoyed the battle and the vendors set up with merchandise from that era.
Once we returned home from the battle, Andy and Clayton had their first Cub Scout campout while me and the other 3 attended a hayride and bonfire. Roasted hot dogs and s'mores - doesn't get much better than that! What a great way to end a fun day!

Youth Football Night

It was youth football night at our local highschool (the same one Andy and I graduated from) and all of the kids from the local youth football league were invited to come out onto the field before the highschool game to be recognized by division and team. Of course, if there is a football game going on, Grant is going to INSIST that we stay and watch, so we came prepared to stay. We hadn't really considered that the two little ones might not like this idea, but we were able to call Grandma who happened to be on her way home and she came and got the two little ones so Andy and the two older boys and I could enjoy the game. That we did - we won!

Huber's Orchard & Winery 2010

On Labor Day we visited Huber's Orchard & Winery with some good friends of ours. We loaded up 7 kids and headed up to Indiana for a day of fun. We ate at the restaurant there for the first time ever and that is something we will DEFINITELY have to do again - YUM-EE! Here is our day in pictures:

Kentucky State Fair 2010

We visited the state fair this year and the kids enjoyed seeing all of the livestock and other displays. Mom and Jerry took the kids back home so Andy and I could go to the Charlie Daniels concert. It was a good day! Here it is in pictures:

A week of mommy working summer camp!
For the second year now, I have been involved in the All Girls Camp (ironic, huh?) week at our local Christian Camp. The boys were shuffled a little between Daddy and Grandma, but also spent a lot of time at camp with Mommy. We found a gracious teen girl to help out with childcare in the mornings and then they just spent the rest of the day with me! Any week of camp is exhausting, and we were all feeling it by the end of the week, but it's all worth it to be involved in such a unique ministry!

White Mills Days 2010
(July 3, 2010)
White Mills Days was another hot one this year but involved lots of fun. Andy and 3 of the boys were in the parade again, with it being Clayton's first time as a bike rider! Grant and I spectated while bagging up lots of candy. Unfortunately, I was unable to do the 5K this year due to twisting my knee (which soon after prompted a look into an old injury on the opposite knee, thus discovering I have - and probably have had for 12 years - a torn meniscus, where surgery was recommended...boooo!). Blake was in his first (and probably last, lol) baby contest, placing 2nd out of five 19-24 month olds. I was feeling that mom-guilt that the others had been in baby contests and he hadn't so I was able to check that off my list, LOL!! We played lots of games where the boys took home tons of junk.. er, I mean, loot and then swam in the gorgeous new beach-entry pool at the camp. It was a great day!

Toy Story 3

We had been waiting for this for months... We saw the preview for TS3 at least 9 months prior to opening day and from that moment I promised the boys we would go and see this in the theater. I had my heart set on opening day, June 18th, and luckily I was able to pull it off! I bought them shirts to wear well in advance in anticipation of the big day. The Toy Story movies are up there at the top of my list of favorite animated movies. I think I was more excited than they were, lol! Little Blake had to sit this one out at Grandma's so me and the "big kids" could enjoy the movie even more. But he was more than eager to sit in on the photo shoot prior to leaving. We had a great day and enjoyed the movie so much. I cried so hard!! Now we can't wait for it to come out on DVD so we can watch it again and again (and so mommy can cry again and again...). :-)

First Family Vacation 2010
Well, it's been a busy busy summer! And that's my excuse for not blogging for about 6 wks! Yikes!! So I'm starting out with our summer kickoff of our very first family vacation. I consider this to be our first true vacation seeing that we've only spent the night away from home twice since we've had kids! Having back to back pregnancies for the last 6 years with a couple of layoffs thrown in there is not conducive to vacationing! So we finally got the chance this year to take a week off from the norm and spend it on the beach! And boy, was it fun! Our kids saw the ocean for the first time which is always special. We spent the week mostly in the water but threw some other fun stuff in there, as well. We had SUCH a good time. Some of the things we did were putt-putt golf, coastal museum tour, go-kart track, Medieval times dinner show, and water park. We stayed on Ocean Isle Beach, NC, a lovely small island community. We were about 45 minutes north of Myrtle Beach, SC and were able to drive down there a couple of different times to do some of the fun stuff mentioned above. For me, relaxing by the water and taking in the sun was the best part of the trip! But a VERY close second had to be the Medieval Times dinner show. This experience was truly worth the money we paid and was so much fun. It is a live reenactment of knights on horseback performing feats of skill as well as the main event of physical combat. Not only that but the crowd is just as involved as you are seated in a colored section and are to cheer for the color of your knight. This was RIGHT up the boys' alley. It is usually difficult to keep four little boys still for very long, but this show had them mesmerized with all of it's action. And the food was delicious! Andy and I enjoyed the show just as much as the kids! Highly recommended!
This trip consisted of our family of six, my mom and stepdad, and my oldest sister and her family (husband, 2 sons, and one son's girlfriend). We really had a blast and definitely want to do it again in the future!

Zoo Field Trip
It has been a busy time of year!! I got my first class field trip experience this week with the kindergarteners going to the zoo! Grandma and the brothers came along, too, and it was a hot, but fun day.
